Curtin University researchers have a long history of exploring disability representation and accessibility in the media.

Funded by ACCAN, Katie Ellis, Mike Kent, Kathryn Locke and Melissa Merchant published the first Australian study examining disability access to subscription video on demand services in 2016.

At this time, companies like Netflix, Stan, and Presto Entertainment had only just arrived in Australia. The report concludes with recommendations that emerged from discussions with disabled consumers (and potential consumers) of VOD and analysis of international trends regarding advocacy and policy.
